A Movement Against War_San Francisco_2003

    San Francisco during the build up to war was a hotbed of discontent not only over the invasion of Iraq, but of a wide range of policies that have affected the nation. We were over 100,000 strong, we were heard. Many disagree that it matters not. That peaceful protest is ineffective. I say stand up and be counted. Having faith that my vote will be counted, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of people who all wished good will was a powerful experience. There were all kinds out, but mostly moms, dads, brother and sisters, children.. young and old. A large swatch of the public cried out for peace.. Often creatively.

    I was wandering around downtown one pleasant Saturday afternoon with my dear friend Jen and was accosted by Zombies who jumped me right at Powell and Market right by the Trolley car turnaround. They jumped me and got some brains... I had enough left to take the bus home...

Lost in Music

Why does it have to be so loud?  Because when its loud, the bass pumps through and the drums kick up and the guitars come skidding across the room and the whole thing hits you in the chest.  Because when its so loud, you can't hear anything else, particularly the people who would ask you why it has to be so loud.  giles smith

I, Lucifer - Poetry

I just finished a book called I, Lucifer, which I highly recommend. Its in the first person from the Devils perspective spotted with social commentary masquerading as witty thoughts...  Interesting story line - God comes to the Devil and makes a deal that he could come back to Heaven if he finished out the life of a human.  There were a few lines in the book I like and thought I would share them...

"That grass and that green, they were made for each other" (page 21)

"I watched the arrival of of bone, the wet birth of blood, the woven tissues, the threaded capillaries, the shocking bag of skin (less Michelangelo then Giger meets Bacon meets Bosch)." (Page 24)

"The feeling that someone, somewhere was quiet, simply, without a concealed agenda, telling me that it was alright, that stillness would come, that peace is purchased in the currency of loss..." (Page 188)

My first Book Club.

So last evening I went to my first book club.  The group was organized through an e-mail listserv I'm on through the bay area chapter of the YNPN (Young Non-Profit Professional).  We read "The Confessions of Max Trivoli" by Andrew Greer.  It was a great book and we had a spirited discussion about the uniqueness of the storyline, how well written it was and about how people are trapped by appearances.  The last question that went around was, "would you recommend this book to anyone?".   I do. 

And I also recommend joining a book club.  I'll be going back..
