A Movement Against War_San Francisco_2003

  • Crowd_shotgirl_wskateboard
San Francisco during the build up to war was a hotbed of discontent not only over the invasion of Iraq, but of a wide range of policies that have affected the nation. We were over 100,000 strong, we were heard. Many disagree that it matters not. That peaceful protest is ineffective. I say stand up and be counted. Having faith that my vote will be counted, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of people who all wished good will was a powerful experience. There were all kinds out, but mostly moms, dads, brother and sisters, children.. young and old. A large swatch of the public cried out for peace.. Often creatively.

Zombie's in Union Square

  • J. And still know how to ride the bus home..
I was wandering around downtown one pleasant Saturday afternoon with my dear friend Jen and was accosted by Zombies who jumped me right at Powell and Market right by the Trolley car turnaround. They jumped me and got some brains... I had enough left to take the bus home...

Logging off.

This pad has been fun but i'm logging off to talk about music over here.

See you over there.

Not Funny

Is this supposed to be funny?  It might be if he was not taking away our rights of expression.

Bush says today: He called me on the phone and said, "Listen, we believe in free speech, so you're going to come and give us a speech for free."

FW: Subject: A little something happened in Chicago yesterday...

P22368208 Image2The news is a funny place these days.  Less about what is happening and more about what someone says is happening.

Back at the ranch.  I recieved this email, i missed this on the evening news or the paper.  Did you?

Dear Friends,

I am writing to any friends living outside Illinois, whether I've spoken to you recently or whether it's been years.  Yesterday we had an immigrant rights march that drew 100,000 people.  Arrests?  None.  (in fact, protesters were having their pictures taken in front of Chicago's equestrian police)  Injuries?  2 people fainted.

Why?  A congressman in a neighboring state, US Rep. Sensenbrenner, has managed to get his bill, HR 4437, passed through the House which would turn all 11 or 12 million undocumented immigrants (that includes people who entered without inspection as well as people who entered on temporary visas and overstayed them) into "aggravated felons" as well as turning the people who help them - aiding and abetting - into just regular ol' felons (which would mean folks like me).  In addition, it has tons of other horrid shit which only the wonks know about.

The bill is currently being considered in the Senate Judiciary Committee, among several competing bills.  Our champ in this is Sen. Durbin (D-IL), and we're wanting folks to call him, as well as Judiciary Committee Chair Arlen Specter (R-PA) and Senate Majority Leader Frist, and Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (because whatever comes out of the Senate will head back to a conference committee between the two chambers).

If you agree that criminalizing 12 million people (as well as millions more who work with them) overnight is no answer to the immigration problem, I'm asking you all to take a moment and call the folks at their D.C. offices (or via their electronic contact forms).  If you agree that people who work and pay taxes and otherwise obey the law should earn a path to citizenship, then tell these officials "No to Sensenbrenner HR 4437, and yes to McCain-Kennedy S. 1033"

Speak your mind my friends.  Create Community.

Funky Cold Birthday

TitanA big ol happy birthday to Tone Loc.  Damn wild thang...

Women have it all wrong..

The complaint often fielded by women is that men leave the toilet seat up.  I think this is all wrong.  My complaint, and my new pet peeve is that men leave the seat down..  and then pee..  and leave drips or splatter from their daily fluid intake perched on the seat.  That is absolutely gross.  I will gladly trade making sure the seat is down before I sit without having to wipe the seat clean.  People..  common decency is needed here..  No one should have to clean up your tinkle unless they are getting paid and/ or agree to do so.. and I've not agreed to do it for anyone yet...

Please.

Have you ever used that stuff in the real world?
